I'm big into the whole Ghetto Funk scene right now, they'll be a load of stuff I link up that's either from that scene or kinda related somehow. Starting with this track from Defunk.

Bluenote eargasm

Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes, a truly legendary soul outfit from Philadelphia. Wake up Everybody is an utterly glorious track, but for a little spice try out this beautiful edit by Psychemagik. I'm completely in love with this tune.

Joe Tex

Funky as feck, an originator of rap, James Brown even covered one of his tunes (as well as his wife...), Joe Tex was a bit of a legend.

Skinny legs and all

Two classics

Lee Dorsey was a proper R&B singer, from the days when R&B actually did what it said on the tin. Apparently he was also in the US Navy and a kick arse boxer. A man of many skills then.

Give It Up

And then we have Dee Edwards, a great singer who released a chain of tracks during the 1960s, but made it big in the charts in the late 1970s when she got into disco. However the tune I'm linking is a more soulful ditty from the early 70s and is a personal fave.

I Can Deal With That

My name is Johnny Depp and I kill people

Good Articulation

Sunday, 3 June 2012

So that previous post title...

...was obviously going to lead to this classic b-boy breakbeat anthem from Nice & Smooth. Obviously something ya'll will know, but whatever......

Old to the New

Saturday, 2 June 2012

Old to the new, the new to old

Menahan Street Band... you'd think this was straight from the 1970s, but nope, 2008. This is the title track of the album "Make the Road by Walking". Recommended, it's alllllll good.

Make the Road by Walking

And while we're here, lets have another from the same album...
